FAQ about Diabetes

Q: What causes diabetes?

A: There are many ways that doctors think caused diabetes. One of the reasons is that the person had an unhealthy diet. If a person has greasy, fried, sugary foods constantly then it is possible to develop diabetes. It causes more calories, which calls for more insulin. Another important factor of what causes diabetes is that the person is not getting enough exercise. If you are laying around on your lazy butt all day long and taking in a bunch of wasted calories, then you are using more insulin. If you are using more insulin then you are burning calories then it causes it to run out more quickly. Taking in more calories than burning calories is the second most common cause for type two diabetes. The third reason which is more uncommon is heredity. A person could have inherited it from a past family member. Usually it is inherited from a grand parent or great-grand parent. Either type of diabetes is not usually inherited from a parent. A very uncommon, reason for developing diabetes is it could have come from an illness. An organism could have attacked the pancreas reducing its ability to produce insulin. As you can see diabetes can be developed from many different things.

Q: What are the impacts of diabetes?

A:The impacts of diabetes cause a person to lead a very careful life. First of all a diabetic person has trouble fighting off infection, disease, and recovering from a simple wound. For example, a person without diabetes gets a paper cut andit takes a week to heal at most. A person with diabetes it can take two weeks to a month to heal and that’s only a simple wound. If a diabetic person has an operation done it takes much longer to heal. Since the body is already trying to survive off of little insulin it causes other issues to be forgotten about or not cared for right away. The white blood cells, colorless cells of the immune system that are in the blood and fight off disease and infection, are trying to help the body recover from the disease the person already has. Secondly, a person has to pay close attention to his/her sugar levels (or blood levels are the amount of sugar in the blood). If the sugar levels are too high it makes a person crazed and energetic. If sugar levels are to low then it makes a person feel tired and dizzy. Diabetic people have to be careful about how much sugar they are taking in because it can make them sick. If there sugar levels are too low then they should have something sugary to bring it back up again. Lastly, the body may produce little or no insulin. You need insulin to help control your blood sugars. When you are diabetic you need to take insulin in order to control your sugars. Without it is easier to get sick or infected. In conclusion, the effects of diabetes are complicated and in some cases can be severe.

Q: What are the treatments for diabetes?

A:To lead a healthy and successful life a diabetic is given treatments and strategies to be content with life. For any type of diabetes the first treatment the doctor will recommend is a change in diet. Part of the reason a person could have developed diabetes is if they had a poor diet. The doctor will suggest vegetables and fruits instead of cake and fried food. Too many natural sugars in fruits can make your sugar levels too high which can be terrible. When you are low eating fruits is good but too many can make your blood levels high. If you are eating fruits or sugary foods, you need to be careful about how much you eat. Another strategy the doctor will suggest is to exercise more often. Exercising helps the body burn calories, which allows it to use less insulin. This will help them feel healthier and stronger during the day. Although, they cannot exercise without making sure their sugars are high enough; if not they could pass out. A strategy only type one diabetic’s use is insulin. Insulin can be injected from a pump or a needle. Using any piece of loose skin another individual can inject the insulin in with the needle. If you chose to use the pump you have to wear it around your waist and it will inject it in using a needle whenever you need it. Both of these strategies produce insulin for the body to survive on. All of these strategies help a diabetic person lead a healthy and successful life.

Q: Are there any organizations that are helping with this disability?

A: Yes, the American Diabetes Association. They are helping by raising money to find a cure for diabetes and give special treatments to people who have the disease. Every year they get thousands of dollars in donation to bring them one step closer to finding a cure. The American Diabetes Association is a voluntary health organization that uses 73% of every dollar from donations to reserach for a cure. This organization is deffinatly a great one and hopefully will find a cure in the future.
